I understand how women can lose the back of an earring without noticing. I see how people could drop something out of a bag or pocket, and not know they dropped it. I get it. Happens to everybody.
What I don’t get is how a woman can “lose” a live 3-foot long snake that was hanging around her neck.
On January 6th of this year, Massachusetts resident Melissa Moorhouse lost her 3-foot Boa Constrictor named Penelope on a Boston subway car. Penelope slithered away from her owner while the train was in motion. Now, the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority is charging Moorhouse $650 to disinfect and clean the possible salmonella left behind on the Red Line train that the snake was hiding on for approximately one full month. The snake was discovered by a subway passenger earlier this month.
Since Penelope made her temporary home on a subway car, several people have wrote in to the Massachusets Bay Transit Authority, complaining of health concerns, the Boston Globe recently reported.
Moorhouse has promised to be more careful with her snake while she is in public.

a 3 foot snake is not “giant”, at that length it would maybe be 2-3 inches in girth, and would easily be capable of slipping away. The story here is responsible pet ownership, snakes are not something you should take for a walk, they require constant heat, and a bloody subway is not the place for one.
at least with all the rodents it probably cleaned up the car on some level
