If there is one thing that you can say about going to McDonalds it is that you know what you are getting.
A familiar menu, a scary statue of some dude with a painted face, screaming kids and famished students are all par for the course in here. Having said that, if you choose to fill your face in a foreign McDonald’s maybe you won’t get exactly what you expected.
Chicken Cheese Fondue Burger – Japan
Doesn’t this look fantastic? Cheese, chicken and fondue are words that appear together all too infrequently for my liking. It looks almost worth travelling over to the Land of the Rising Sun just to give it a try.
Das Nürnburger – Germany
Would I be correct in guessing that you knew where this meal was from without even looking at the name? Let’s face it, who else but the Germans would be brave, foolish and downright bizarre enough to stick 3 whopping great sausages inside a bun? Unless I’m sadly mistaken I think I can also see some mustard peeking timidly out of there as well.
McSpaghetti – Philippines and Singapore
Why the Hell would you even go to McDonalds to buy a plate of spaghetti in the first place? This is like the worst place in the world to eat this kind of stuff. Instead, you should be buying buns stuffed with giant sausages or improbable combinations of chicken and cheese that have been mysteriously fondued.
The Kiwi on a Stick – Italy
What could be simpler than getting a kiwi, putting it on a plastic stick and selling it to gullible Italians? Well, for a start not doing this would be easier.
Bacon and Potato Pie – Japan
So, we’re back in Japan, are we? Sadly, this time there isn’t any prospect of stuff getting the fondue treatment but that’s alright. We’ll just need to settle for potato and bacon being crushed together, deep fried and made into the least convincing impression of a pie I’ve ever seen. You can say sayonara to your arteries after tucking into this beauty.
McRice Burger – Philippines
If you live in the Philippines and aren’t satisfied with a plate of pasta then what about a burger in a bun made of rice? I can also see some cabbage and lettuce in there as well. Good lord, your cholesterol might not rocket sky high even if you’re a fast food junkie in Manila. It’ll never catch on.
Laksewrap – Norway
The fun loving Norwegians sure know how to live the good life; just add fish. This is a wrap with a chunk of salmon and some lettuce.
Mango Pie – Nicaragua
How would you like to cram some mango goodness down your gullet while in Managua? You can get this slice of tropical mayhem in McDonalds in Nicaragua. If you want to try a peach mango pie then you need to head to Hawaii.
Paneer Wrap – India
At this point I have to confess that some of the previous stuff looked a bit weird. However, I have to say that this Indian meal looks great. It is a wrap filled with vegetables. There are no kiwis, salmon or giant sausages in sight. Even better, the thing hiding in the middle is battered and fried cheese. Why haven’t I tried battered and fried cheese before now?
