It’s time for another edition of the Mantastic Podcast, I’m Sean Kavanaugh your host and I’m joined by my two co-hosts Allen Wilterdick and John George Ellis.

Hey fellas whats new?

Hey John did you get any Fuse care packages this week?

I did, I got my brown matte Hovens with the yet to be released pink mirrored lenses. Sweet. Special thanks Brandon Dill with Fuse Lenses.

Well this is gonna a be a little different Mantastic Podcast today.  I think it’s safe to say we’re going next level on this Podcast. I’m jacked up to talk to  our guest Scott Smith public speaker, journalist, and author of the book Extraordinary People which gives some pretty valuable life lessons from ultra successful people.

Let me give everyone a brief rundown of Scott Smith’s bio, Scott is a journalist with over 1200 articles published in 175 publications, including Investors Business Daily, Success, Entrepreneur and Chief Executive, he has interviewed Bill Gates, Stan Lee, Lee Iacocca, Kathy Ireland (Lucky) Brain Tracy and one of my favorite authors Dean Koontz among others. Scott has a brand new book out called Extraordinary People: Real Life Lessons on What it Takes to Achieve Success. Hey Scott welcome to the show.

Where do I even begin? I want to start out be telling you that I’ve always been fascinated by the stories behind the person’s success. I love hearing about how failures and set backs led to breakthroughs and eventual success.

Is that why you wrote this book, to give people a glimpse into the minds of ultra successful people. So they can see the commonality?

Obviously you have some really smart cookie’s on your list of individuals however most ultra successful people say that their success didn’t come from how smart they are/were. They say that pretty much anyone can be successful with the right mentoring and the right mindset. Do you find that to be the case?

I find that most highly successful people have an innate ability to navigate potential pitfalls in business or they know when they have to build another S curve because they see or feel the one that got them to the dance won’t keep them there forever?

You’ve been around thousands of successful business people. What drew you to the ones you have in your book.? Most are not well known

Reed Hastings is probably the most famous business person on your list and I love his story and how he built his S curve. Why don’t you explain his story and highlight the central theme of his company’s arc and how he affected it?

I am a huge Anne Rice fan. Tell me a bit about her. I love the lesson “don’t be afraid to change course more than once” Tell us how her story relates to the aspiring business person.

There is one thing I’ve seen in ultra successful people and that’s that they are all a little nuts. Can you put your finger on a common thread that makes all of these individuals the same in some way.

My son is a huge president fan. At 4 years old he knew all of them. By 6 he knew the vice presidents. And if you filled up a room and people randomly gave him their birthdays he could fire off the president in office at the time. You have John Quincy Adams in your book, even my son would ask why?

You have Jackie Joyner-Kersee as the athlete in your book. I’d like to know why, she is obviously a phenomenal athlete but what drew her to you?

I’ve had the pleasure of coaching some tremendous athletes in the sport of wrestling one in particular Joe Williams was very much like Kersee, he was a 4x Illinois state champion and a 3x NCAA Champion, 7x US Freestyle Champion and Olympian.

I’ve found that most of the great ones weren’t great to start, Joe lost every match his 1st year in wrestling and went on to be a 3x kids champion. They have this incredible gift to be able to shake off incredible defeat.

Thank you so much for coming on with us today. I’ve skimmed through a few of the people and I can’t wait to read the rest.

I usually read to escape but I know  the most highly successful people read the works of other highly successful people so I’ve committed myself to doing the same. He a great weekend Scott and please come back anytime.

Why don’t you tell our listeners where they can buy a copy of your book.

Thanks again everyone for listening to another edition of the mantastic podcast brought to you by mancertified.com We will see you again next week.
