Or is it? We know that Supersizing anything is usually not the best option. We know we are going to need to practice some self-restraint. But we need some help. This weekend, as you gear up to START a new show, follow these guidelines to avoid a full-out, crying in front of the fridge-style binge.

Rule 1: Make a plan

Decide in advance how many episodes you can watch in a day, a week and a month. And stick to it. If you must, write out a calendar. It will help you look forward to the time you get to watch this guilty pleasure.

Rule 2: Cap TV time.

Prescribe yourself a total amount of TV time per day and stick to it. That means if you are watching something else, you need to balance it with the new binge-worthy show. This rule is great for all TV addicts.

Rule 3: Don’t eat and watch

No more watching TV while you eat dinner. It’s healthier and you respect the food – and the television show – more when you can give it your full attention.
Rule 4: Gym first

If you know you are the coach potato type, plan ahead. Get your workout in and reward yourself with an episode (or two) of your new show.

Rule 5: Avoid Spoiling

Avoid all social media and internet gossip that might spoil you to your binge-worthy show. Do not use the chance of being spoiled as an excuse for watching it all right away.
Rule 6: No morning television

Do not start watching TV until late enough in the day where a binge is less likely. Morning TV – especially on a weekend – can eat up your whole day. Be proactive and do not allow yourself to start early. A binge is like a drug, so do not even allow yourself a little bit until you are ready.
Rule 7: Be held accountable.

Ask for help. Watch your show with a friend who also chooses not to binge. Plan your watching around a similar schedule so you can still discuss the show right away. Hold them accountable and let them do the same.
