How about weekend project that will increase home security, save on utility bills and make your wife think your a pretty handy guy. Homeowners like to leave front and back door coach lights on as an added security measure, trouble is they either forget to turn them on or off. Take a drive through your neighborhood around 9:00 a.m. and you’re sure to see some porch lights that were left on.
An easy inexpensive way to solve this problem is with a photoelectric cell. These cells are simpler to install than some electric timers and wont have to be reset in the event of a power outage. The installation is fairly simple. The lights will go on automatically when the sun sets and go off when the sun rises. They can be purchased at most home centers, I got mine at Home Depot. There are styles to fit most styles of lights and lamps. Yard lights also have cells to automatically turn them on and off. Tools needed, include pliers, wire strippers, wire nuts and a drill and bit. After installing use a piece of black electricians tape and cover the eye to see if the light goes off. A lot of people use their fingers or thumbs to cover the eye of the cell, this does not always work, the skin lets in light.
