Have you ever wondered where the longest escalator in the world is located? Sure you have, you just don’t like to admit that your head is filled with nonsense like this. I, on the other hand, have no problems admitting that I lie in bed at night thinking about stuff like this. The truth is that an 800 metre stretch of escalator heaven in Hong Kong is classed as the longest on the planet. Now I can sleep easily at last.
The Outdoor Escalator
Medellín in Colombia has a brilliant system of outdoor elevators that let residents of higher areas get home without having to walk up the steep slope. It’s almost enough to make you want to move there.
The Shortest Escalator
This is the shortest escalator in the world. It is to be found in a department store in Japan and, as you can see, only covers a few modest steps. Judging by this photo, it goes down rather than up, which makes it even more baffling. Who would choose to use this weird escalator? Shucks, I guess we all would really.

I have no idea where this clever Simpsons donut escalator is located but it looks really cool.
The Shark Escalator
Is this a Photoshop or a real escalator down to a shark pool? It was supposed to be of a flooded scientific centre in Kuwait with escaped sharks in it but it turned out be a hoax. It is actually a photo of a flooded subway station in Toronto that some rogue has added sharks to. For once the world turns out to be slightly less weird than I had hoped.
The Japanese Escalator Sign
Technically speaking this is a weird escalator sign rather than a weird escalator. That doesn’t mean that I can’t include it though, does it? Jeez, you’re a tough crowd on here. This giant escalator in the Russian subway system takes passengers 3 minutes to get to the top of. Well, that’s unless you cheat and walk up some of the stairs. But why would you even want to do that anyway?
