We meet people. We have sex with them. It happens. No shame. Right? Riiight? Well, there should not be so long as the experience is one rooted in respect and communication. Be proactive. Start with these tips.
Be honest.
The easiest thing to do is to lie. Don’t. Tell her that you are not looking for anything serious. Tell her that you do not expect that to change. Sure, she might not like hearing it, but you will rest assured that you had an honest, adult experience. There is no shame in having sex – if you stay honest, open and listen to the other person.
Be prepared.
Use a condom. Use it well. Be smart and be proactive about your health (and hers.)
Be friendly.
Just because you had a one night stand does not mean it has to be over. You CAN become friends (or, at least, become friendly). There is no need to be dismissive or rude to anyone. If you enjoyed your time with her (or even if you didn’t), something made you interested to begin with. Respect that. Do not lead her on, but treat her like you would want to be treated.
Be respectful.
Don’t ghost. Respond to her inquiries. She deserves answers to her questions. (You do too.) In a kind and empathetic way, explain just what she should expect from you.
Be appreciative.
Was it fun? Tell her so. Thank her for being open and vulnerable to you. Respect what you shared and understand that no person is a conquest. Be an adult.
Understand it is a two way street.
She might not be looking to marry you anytime soon either. Always be aware that it takes two to tango. Respect her more for the time you shared and do not assume she wants to put a ring on you.
It’s okay to stay.
If you want to, stay the night. Enjoy the moments you spend together, enjoy the time that two responsible adults can enjoy. Do not assume you have to leave right away. If you can give her an hour or two, you can give her a night. (If she wants it.) Besides, you know you want to snuggle anyway. If you are honest with her, staying is not a problem.
